Delicious Apple French Toast Bake

Prep / 20 minutes / cook time / 45 minutes /serves 4-6

Don’t have much to say about this recipe but YUMMY!!

Ingredients:

  • 1 16” baguette sliced into ½-¾ “ slices[ I cut the tips off the ends]
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt

Method

  • Grease a 9×9 oval or round baking dish, lay the bread slices on bottom
  • Whisk the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, nutmeg and salt together.
  • Pour over bread let soak
  • 3-4 granny smith apples [ peeled and sliced ]
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • 1 ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • Place all this in a bag, seal and mix it all up until the apple slices are coated
  • Pour over bread in baking dish, cover and refrigerate at least 6 hours, or overnight
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  • Uncover baking dish and bake until apples are soft and eggs are set, [ about 30 minutes]
  • Stir slightly and turn off oven
  • Turn upside with a spatula and drizzle more syrup
  • Place in still hot oven for about 5 minutes
  • Remove and serve.

** Try tucking some precooked sausage or bacon somewhere in the baking dish before baking
*** A great sunday brunch dish or [ even dessert?]
**** Mix in some raisins chopped nuts w/the apple mixture before you pour over Bread
